Hello lovely readers!
My name is Alison, and I’m going to be writing regularly on Beyond the Talk for you, along with Alex. We’re both members of the Island Sexual Health Society (ISHS) Youth Committee, a group of young people who provide feedback and pitch ideas to the organization so that they can ensure their message gets across to youth in an engaging, informative manner. I’m a part of this effort; you see, I’m an 18-year-old girl in my first year at UVic, a demographic that defines a significant portion of those who seek help from the ISHS. To me, this is one of the most important niches that often fails to be filled without non-profit organizations, and as such, I truly appreciate the work that they do in our community. A key theme that I plan to explore throughout my columns is LGBTQ relationships, a topic close to my heart as I am currently in a lesbian relationship. However, I won’t be strictly taking that point of view, so feel free to check back even if that isn’t necessarily a subject that you relate to personally. I’m excited to see where these next few months take me, as well as this wonderful brand-spanking-new website – take a look around!
